"Ceramic artist Laurie Rolland and painter Jane Duford Johnston both observe humankind's imprint on sea and shoreline with images of ocean-going vessels, and the mysterious life forces within the sea. While Duford Johnston's work surrounds the gallery space with dream-like ocean vistas, Rolland contemplates the boat as a metaphor for refuge and safe passage. Both artists reflect on the pull of the tide, while Rolland's often enigmatic pieces show clear feminine parallels to the ongoing rhythms of the natural world."
